Today is the day the Lord came. The weather is nearing 60°F, and the sky is high and bright, as if spring has arrived. After spending a busy morning blessing Christmas with my daughter’s family at their home, I began working on the final manuscript of Alliance Christology, which I had promised to finish by today. By God’s grace, I completed it at 3 p.m.
To encourage myself for the labor, I went out for a walk with my wife, and my heart felt so light and joyful that I could almost dance. Over the past three weeks, I can’t remember sleeping more than five hours a night. More than once, I woke up suddenly with ideas for the book swirling in my mind, afraid I might forget them, and rushed to sit in front of the computer. Yesterday, the day before, and even the day before that, I rose at 3 a.m. and worked late into the night, leaving my head throbbing and my body chilled.
Yet my heart overflows with gratitude, because I wonder when I will ever again have the chance to devote my whole mind and body so completely to meditating on Jesus and His ministry. In writing this book, I was able to pour in the entirety of my forty years of biblical study. What could be more rewarding than that? Lord, thank You.
